Sea Waste jewelry summer LOOKBOOK

Two days ago we launched on Facebook a Sea Waste jewelry summer LOOKBOOK that was shot by photographer Goran Matijašec on a beautiful Croatian island Brač. Model is my dear friend Anita Dujić, a famous Croatian model and I couldn't wish for a better model to represent my jewelry. Isn't she just stunning? Seem like Sea Waste jewelry will be must have this summer. ;)

Many thanks to Goran, Anita and my dear family and friends that are helping me in so many ways.

Šarengrad

The reason that I wasn't so active on my blog lately is so many things that are going on at the same time. One of them is a theatre play Šarengrad (Sarengrad) directed by Renata Carola Gatica and choreographer Natalija Manojlović. Nina Jukić, my band mate from ChocoJazz and I edited music for the play, which was an awesome experience that happened out of the blue. We used some of our songs (Hladan Stan, Zašto te nema, AngelSheep, Uzet ću te i odvesti) because director Renata loved them very much and asked to incorporate them into play.

It was a great honour to participate in process like that and to actually perform and share stage with five great actresses: Ivana Krizmanić, Saša Naumov, Ivana Pavlović, Marija Tadić and Romina Vitasović.

The play tells story about 7 women from little town Šarengrad in Croatia, early nineties, the start of the war, lack of man, soap operas, loneliness...it has a little bit of everything, singing, dancing, drama, tears, laugh, highly atmospheric play with lot's of little details and moments.

We have two more shows before summer brake, one tonight and one on Thursday but we will be performing again in the fall. For more info click here, and come and watch us if you're in town! :)

...while getting ready for my second visit to beautiful and beloved Barcelona this July I'm thinking of last summer and how we met for the first time last September. I can't wait for July to come and to walk my feet around those narrow and colorful streets again and explore hundreds of cool and creative shops with unique designs. Barcelona has one of the most creative scenes according to fashion and textile designs so while in town I'll try to make some contacts with local designers and take as much photos as I can of Barcelona street style. I got dots

"I got stripes, stripes around my shoulder..." sings Johnny Cash in his very famous song, but today instead of stripes I got dots around my shoulders. I'm a huge fan of various patterns and I like to wear them a lot. Here is a little something about polka dot, famous pattern that became one of the classics.

Polka dot term was first used in 19th century in Britain, some say around 1866. The pattern is named after the dance of the same name that was the latest craze of that period. In an effort to cash the fad, manufacturers began naming all sorts of things polka. Polka gauze, polka hats, polka curtain bands and many other products. Of all these terms only polka dot survived until today.

There are two possible origins of the word polka. Polka dance originally comes from Bohemia and polka either can come from the Czech word pulka, which is half step, or a combination of two dances polonaise and mazurka. According to the dictionary of Etymology the word polka literally means Polish woman.

Traditionally polka dots were used in the clothing of flamenco dancers and performers. Nowadays many products that we use in everyday life, from clothing to dishes, use polka dot pattern and many famous designers almost every season incorporate polka dot pattern into their creations.

Today I wore to work a vintage polka dot shirt that, my favorite item for this spring and I pared it with skinny jeans and white converse. Live long polka dot! :)

ChocoJazz saturday gig

Band recommendation - UMOR

Umor is Zagreb based band and very dear to my heart (my boyfriend Branimir is a guitar player in Umor). They've been playing together since 1998 as Crop Circle, but they changed their name in 2007 when second guitarist left the band. They published one split EP with Croatian band Cojones, one Self Titled EP and this May they released their first album called Pralayaah for the local label Sonic Doom Records.

They describe themselves as loud and heavy atmospheric rock/metal band with stoner and doom influences, but what I like the most is the cosmic end/beginning of the world atmosphere they produce. The songs last pretty long and every song seem like soundtrack of the moments in which you can lose yourself completely

Free People may catalog shot in Hawaii is stunning. They made cool video for the collection too, makes me smile every time. Can't wait for the summer to come and to wear sandals and walk barefoot on rocky beaches. In Zagreb is also beautiful and sunny but I'd rather be in Hawaii, well who wouldn't! ;)

Exhibition alert!

Tomorrow night at 20h in kino Tuškanac my dear colleague and a very passionate artist Ljiljana Babic has an opening exhibition of her paintings. She invited my band ChocoJazz to warm up the atmosphere. If you are around come and visit the exhibition and listen to some choco and jazzy sounds.

Also, for the first time in Zagreb there will be NOIR FESTIVAL in town and after Liljana's exhibition you can stay in kino Tuškanac to see a projection of Orson Welles's The Lady from Shanghai.

If you feel more like going out and partying you can go to club SAX and listen to some new rocking local bands. With so many happenings in town there's no way you can stay at home, go out! ;)

Amy did it again...

...and she did it awesome! Her second collection for Fred Perry spr/sum 2011 is in shops now, unfortunately not in Croatia. She redesigned some Fred Perry classical pieces playing with colors and patterns. Apart from gingham pattern that is very common for FP she incorporated Hawaiian print, which is total refreshment for Fred Perry and gives that summer vibe. The collection also contains bags, shoes and added accessories. I love it, good job Amy!

My favorite items from the collection: Gingham Bandeau, Gingham Playsuit, Harrington Jacket and Boat Shoes with Hawaiian print on the inside. <3

Road trip

This Easter I went on a road trip to Bosnia with my boyfriend. Even after only two days of driving, spending time with family and visiting new places I feel really refreshed, rested and ready for new challenges.

We drove from Zagreb to Travnik, my hometown. We visited my grandparents and on our way back we stopped in Banja Luka.

I really love springtime in Bosnia!

Well I was supposed to be one of the participants on Creative Fair in cafe bar Muzungu previous Saturday, but it turned out that all the other participants cancelled and that I was the only one that showed up. Couple of days ago I came across fabulous shop on Etsy and I couldn't be more surprised when I saw that girl Andrea0503 behind MIRTAjewelry comes from Croatia, Zagreb. She was actually featured seller on Etsy's blog, which is pretty cool since Etsy community is really huge with lots of talented people and sellers. I was proud that someone from my country did such an amazing work and was recognized by so many people from all over the world.

ChocoJazz is going to studio today. When we won band competition Močvara traži zvijezdu we also won the price that was 16 hours of recording in a Funhouse studio in Zagreb and today we're finally starting with recording sessions.
We will probably start with Uzet ću te i odvesti because we never recorded it before and we're very curious and excited to see how the things will work. I think we will shoot some videos and photos from the studio so I'll keep you posted.

Getting ready for the Creative Fair

Shpitza Boutique spring display

Yesterday I decorated my shop-window and I changed spring display. For couple of weeks I had some primroses hanging from the ceiling but I was hard to maintain them and they faded with time. When I came across these beautiful Fred Perry spring/summer 2011. photos the idea for a new fresh display was born. I printed them out, hanged on the rope and secured them with cute wooden pegs. Here are some of the lovely Fred Perry photos I used and a few photos of my shop's display.

Sea Waste jewelry collection - spr/sum 2011.

A few days ago I launched my first jewelry collection called Sea Waste, so here's a little something about the collection and why and how I’ve started it in the first place.

Since I come from Čiovo, a little island in the Adriatic Sea, my work is always somehow connected to my roots. I live in Zagreb now and most of the time I really miss the beautiful sunny days and long walks on the rocky beaches. I’ve found my inspiration in moments of both homesickness and nostalgia.

During winter, on the beach close to my house, you can find a real treasury consisting of sea weed, shells and various kinds of wood, small, big, broken, shaped by the sea. I like natural materials, especially wood, so I was fascinated by the uniqueness and structure of every wood piece that I could find and so I started collecting them. The idea of making jewelry with those abandoned wood pieces came instantly and I couldn't wait to start working on the collection.

I used paint, metal chains and old afghan coins to achieve that light effect of the sea air and sunny sky. Colors that were used are white, light blue, pink and purple, all light and bright colors.

Every piece is unique, since every sea-shaped object is unique and will definitely bring light and relaxed note to your spring and summer combinations.

...dreamy seashores and salty air seem closer with sea waste jewelry on her skin...

It's Shpitza Time!

Shpitza in Croatian literally means rush hours and in Zagreb it's also very popular part in the center of the town which is always colorful, crowded, vivid and in slang it also means a “high state of mind”. I named my boutique Shpitza 'cause I wanted my shop to be a popular and cool place to stop by and hang out.

And somehow it ended like that. Almost every day all of my friends meet there and it has become a meeting point for us. Since I spend my days working in the shop I decided to start a blog and write about creative and fun projects that I do trough my work.

I design jewellery, I'm a crafty person and I adore analog photography and lomography so lots of posts will be related to my passions in everyday life.

I'm also a singer and accordion player in ChocoJazz band so some of the posts will be about our gigs and promotion for our songs. Check us out on MySpace !

We'll that was it for a start. Soon I'll post a photos of my first jewelery collection and write a little about my design.
